What's new & improved

We are pleased to open the 2010/2011 school year with news of some exciting changes and improvements at Sundrops.

What’s New

Our community continues to grow...

The Bridge campus added a Nido (3 to 18 months) and Casa (3 to 6 years) room.  We have also expanded and moved our Elementary classroom to a large Annex location directly adjacent to the Bridge campus.  At both the Beach and Bridge we’ve added great new staff to support this year’s programs.  There have also been upgrades in the way of eco-friendly flooring and paint at both campuses.

We are excited to add Palmetto Montessori to the Sundrops family this year.  Chandler Payne, co-founder of Palmetto Montessori and a dear friend of Shannon Smith’s, is now part of Sundrops, making it Sundrops’ third campus in the area.  Palmetto is an established and highly regarded Montessori school in downtown Charleston.  Chandler’s heart is in teaching and this let’s her get back in the classroom and leave the administration to the Sundrops team.  Together, we can offer more options in Montessori education for both the community and our families.

What’s Improved

We’ve taken the feedback from our 2010 Parent Survey to help guide the priorities in implementing improvements.  Some of these include:

  • FOB security system to better control access to the school
  • Food and Snack program to provide healthy, organic food choices
  • Drop-off and pick-up logistics that make the process easier and safer
  • Enrichment and after-school programs that are Montessori and age-appropriate
  • Elementary program with new class space and enrichment programs

Why We’ve Made the Changes

The predominant answer to this is that we believe in our community.  Most importantly, this includes our current and future families and their children.  The demand for a Nido program and expansion of another Casa class will serve the growing requests from families.  The expansion into an Elementary Annex and addition of teaching staff for this age group will be a big step toward our vision of building the best Montessori elementary program in the area.

Welcome to all current and new families….we look forward to another great year!
